We all have things we don't like very much like vaccinations, getting older, or paying bills. I'm sure you have your own list of dislikes too.
One thing that really (I mean REALLY) annoys me is dog hair. With 4 dogs, white fur is everywhere in my house. It accumulates in the corners and on the stairs until it looks like snow. It sticks to furniture and clothes like velcro. It has made its way into my new car even though my dogs have never been in it. I tell my dogs that I take them with me everywhere I go.
I've given up on wearing black much because it's too hard to get all the white hairs off. No matter how much I try, no amount of grooming keeps all the dog hair off the floor and furniture.
However, and this is a BIG however, I know the only way to really get rid of all the dog hair is to get rid of the dogs. That is NOT an option. Anyone who comes to visit us just needs to deal with it.
I love my dogs. They love me unconditionally. When I'm feeling bad, they brighten my day. They keep me warm when the temperatures drop. When I come home, they greet me as though I've been gone for weeks. My dogs do so much to make my life happier that I can't imagine not having them around.
So if I'm grateful for my dogs, then I'd better be grateful for the dog hair. Sure, I could go for a different breed, but that doesn't help now. Having dogs means having dog hair. And having dog hair means that I have dogs. They go hand-in-hand, paw-in-paw. Since I can't have one without the other, I just need to appreciate them all.
What are the "necessary evils" In your life? The dentist? Taxes? Your job? What would be the consequences of eliminating those things from your life? Today, say a little prayer of gratitude for those things that you dislike but also provide important benefits.
